Test photos of the 5D Mark II

Postby gldiana » Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:17 pm

Well, only one for now. More later... I went out a little bit and caught this fellow taking a late morning stroll.
The photo is cropped to almost 100%. It was quite far, I used the 100-400 lens.

So you get the newest of the new cameras that Canon has out, take it out your first time and snag a Mountain Goat!?! What kind of luck do you have!!

That looks pretty crisp at 100% crop!!

Eh Pat, beginners' luck, I guess :)

This one was shot at ISO 6400, with the 24-105 L IS @ 24mm 1/4" f/11 no sharpening, no in-camera noise reduction, straight noise reduction on Canon's Digital Photo Pro (no particular settings used):

Image

The one below was taken with the same lens. ISO 25600 (Serious banding but if not very large still usable), 1/40" f/11 noise reduction as above (no in camera noise reduction):

Image

And this one is the same as above but with Noise Ninja applied afterward, most banding is gone. No sharpening done.

Congrats on the camera Luca.
I hope to get over that way this summer and get some shots from your valley. I always like making the loop!
Love the antler arch all lit-up like that!

On my budget laptop, I dont even see any banding in the first image shot at 25000!!! Man, that's very impressive

So yesterday was a bluebird day so I took the camera with me to work in case I didn't get any lesson (which I didn't) so that I could shoot photos of the peaks here for a project I'm working to be featured at the gallery.
I was at the bus stop and noticed the surface hoar crystals on the wooden fence. Didn't have my macro lens but used the 24-105 as close as I could get to them. This is a 100% crop of the central part of the photo.

Looks like the spot Lex Luther took Superman and kept him captive with the Krytonite...Ok, that just proved I'm a nerd!

Pat,
you're not the only one... in 8 years I haven't missed a single episode of Smallville :)

BTW, it's called the Fortress of Solitude ;-)
