All-in-One Zoom Lense

Postby shelly3745 » Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:58 am

I have a Fuji S5100 and would like to purchase an all-in-one zoom lense. I am new (about 2 years) to the photography world and most of my shooting is outdoors, animals. birds, landscape, water, boating, fishing, etc.. Can someone please recommend what would be the best for me to purchase that is inexpensive for my camera.
Thank you

Shelly,

Welcome to the Forum!!

I'm not familiar with your camera, so looked up the specs for it on DPReview. Your camera is "SLR-like", but not a true SLR. Consequently, your camera has a fixed lens rather than an interchangeable one. The only way to upgrade your lens is to upgrade your camera, although the lens on your camera is pretty impressive. There aren't many SLR lenses that can compete with the 37-370mm equivalent range that your camera has and the only Canon lens with that kind of range is their 28-300mm.

Thank you for your response. My camera does have an adapter ring which allows me to attach my polorizer and UV filters. I would love to upgrade my camera, my finances will not let me. No biggie though, my Fuji is a great Camera, takes excellent pics and I love it!

I went to the DPReview site that you mentioned and at the bottom of the page it gives you options for buying additional products for my camera.

The link sends you to to Amazon that has a Opteka 2.2x HD2 Telephoto Lens for 29.95 & Opteka 3.2x HD2 Telephoto Lens for 49.95. They are sold and shipped by 47th street photo. Would you recommend either one or both of these lenses and if so are you familiar with 47th street photo? They also have a packages available.

Thank you

Shelly,

I can't recommend the attachments since I have no experience with them, but 47th Street Photo is a reputable dealer and I have bought from them.

Bob R,

The customer reviews seem to be pretty good and the lenses are inexpensive, but I will check into it a little more. If I do decide to purchase those, at least I know that 47th St. is reputable dealer and is ok to purchase from.

Thanks again for you input.
