100 - 400mm f4.5-5.6 L

Postby Edd » Thu Apr 23, 2009 5:22 am

On another forum that I frequent some guys on there are reporting problems with this lense after about 12 months.

Problem seems to be a lining for the locking mechanism breaking up and entering the lense.

Anyone here had this problem ?????

BTW they do report using the lense quite a lot.

Any Advice greatfully received.

Ed,

I've had mine for a few years and probably use it more than any other lens I own and have had no problems with it.

I have the 70-200 f/2.8L and just recently had to send it back to Canon because a bushing between the barrels wore out and was allowing the lens to shake a bit.

THey fixed it for I think around $100 but the lens is about 5 years old and has been beat to death. I cant believe it held up as long as it has. I havent heard anything about the 100-400, but I dont own it. Just telling you that if it does wear out, it's not much to get fixed

I know this is a few weeks old but I own the 100-400 and the 70-200 as well as other L glass. I have never had nor heard of any of anyone else having this problem. I will say that Canon has it's CPS program that is wonderful! I knocked over my tripod with my 1DS mark II and the 70-200 on it. The lens broke into 3 pieces! I sent it in and in 6 days including the weekend, I had it repaired and in hand at a cost of $90. Membership also includes (depending on your membership level) so many free cleanings of your cameras a year and expidited repair and shipping as well as discounted repair cost. You also have the opertunity to put in for loaner equipment to try out. This is one of those things that if you qualify is so worth every penny it cost!
