Circular Polerizers

Postby CG415 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 12:13 pm

Hello Everyone!

This is my first post on here and I am fairly new to the photography life. Right now I am shooting with a Nikon D80 and a Quantaray 18 -200 lens. I recently purchased a Circular Polerizer and when I am taking photos of water the glare is there just like it is with out the polerizer. But when I put on my polerized sun glasses the glare disappers.

Can anyone give me some advice on what is going on?

Thanks,

Chris

You may already know this, but I'll say it anyway. Your CP filter should have a rotating mount. If you rotate the filter 90 degrees you should see the effect increase or decrease. Just rotate the filter until you see the effect you are looking for. Also, not all filters are created equal. I am not sure which brand/model you are using, but some of the cheaper ones (like the off brand filters I started with) have a minimal effect. Also, these filters have different effects based on the angle of the sun. If the sun is directly in front of you the effect will be fairly little. The closer the sun is to 90 degree angle to you the stronger the effect will be.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, The one that I am using is a Quantaray. It is the Ritzcamera brand, so it deffinetly is not the greatest. I will have to play with it and see what I can do.

Thanks,

Chris

I've found that I need to have the sun either behind me or at a right angle to the image for my polorizer to work
