Dolica tripods?

Postby slane » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:42 pm

Has anyone ever heard of or used the above brand of tripod?

Or what do you think: http://www.dolica.com/product_list.php?c=28

I busted my old "cheap" tripod and I am looking for a new one. Need NOT to spend a large amount of $'s as I am also saving for another lens.

Thanks,
Sharon

I've bought a Bogen/Manfrotto from Adorama for $115.00 with free shipping, and I'm delighted with it.

Hi Sharon- it's a model 725B. It has a ball head, which I find very convenient.

Sharon,

I use the same tripod. It will support my D70 and Tokina 400 just fine. I used it recently with a heavy lens with no collar and found that the ballhead is not beefy enough to hold the camera in position. It slowly turns downwards. I have looked to see if I can change the ballhead, but it appears that it is not possible. It is still a great tripod and very easy to carry into the backcountry, but I think I will be upgrading soon.

The 725B is the right type of tripod and head, but it's load weight is 7.7. I will at times have both a spotting scope and my D80 attached. I am afraid that would put it right at the limit.

I thought the heads were interchangeable? Guess that is something I will have to watch out for, as I wanted both types for different uses.

Thanks for the information!
