Help finding lens for Olympus camera

Postby jlschup » Tue Sep 30, 2008 11:38 am

Hi! I am just getting into the world of professional photography. I have learned a lot from my aunt and other pros, but everyone seems to use such different equipment and has such varying advice. So I come to you for help in my next purchase.

I am looking to buy an aspherical lens for my Olympus E-510 D-SLR. I will be using it for portraits--group and individual shots. I have narrowed it down to needing an aspherical lens (correct me if I am wrong) to alleviate edge distortion. But beyond that, I am pretty much stumped.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

I don't know much about the Olympus system. They have the 4/3 sensor right? Are you looking for primes or zoom lenses. For portraits I like my 50/1.8 prime because of the shallow DOF. For group shots I use a sigma 18-50/2.8 which has shallow DOF, but also goes pretty wide to fit groups in smaller spaces. These are on a Nikon DX camera which has a crop factor of 1.5.

Just my thoughts,
