I think the latest version of php-forum-software addresses the spam problem by making it necessary for new members to type in a set of numbers and letters visible on the signup form, and activation is only achieved when an automatic e-mail is sent to the person registering. I know this will not eliminate spam but it likely does make it more controllable, and when spam is posted, that IP address can be banned from posting again. I devote un-paid time for a couple of forums, admin for the art of fly tying, based in Finland, as well as moderate a fly tying forum based in the US, and I realize spam is a never ending battle, but it is a battle that needs to be waged for forums to remain clean, healthy and active. Personally I think it reflects poorly having so much spam here, and if I owned the OP I’d either allocate active forum management, to be performed daily, or remove the forum, one or the other. Having links to porn from such a respected source is troublesome. Those members who post spam should be deleted and banned, as soon as possible.
