Unfortunately, I believe you are correct. Some of the other forums have made new members wait until their e-mail address have been validated before they are allowed to post. It's a simple procedure, but apparently this site doesn't have administrators or ones that care enough to weed these folks out.

well its been a few days and i still don't know. there are a lot of user names that are obvious spam names that should be deleted and the ip's blocked.

anyways i can be found in the fuji and nikon forums at photocamel.com and in the fuji forum on dpreview.

i hope outdoor photographer can sort out this issue fast. otherwise it will kill the forum.

good luck,

I'd certainly participate more here if it were possible - this quantity of spam certainly makes discussion seem pointless.

I agree, this could potentially be a great forum for outdoor photographers to meet and exchange thoughts and experiences. This site just needs some admin management, even just a few minutes a day would make a huge difference. Perhaps advertisers would eventually pay to be seen on active web pages, like they do for the printed variety.

the really frustrating thing about all of this. i have posted email and pms to the admin and i have never gotten a reply. it would be nice of the admin answered or posted once in awhile.

i have searched the members forum and almost half the users names are just for spam.

I think the latest version of php-forum-software addresses the spam problem by making it necessary for new members to type in a set of numbers and letters visible on the signup form, and activation is only achieved when an automatic e-mail is sent to the person registering. I know this will not eliminate spam but it likely does make it more controllable, and when spam is posted, that IP address can be banned from posting again. I devote un-paid time for a couple of forums, admin for the art of fly tying, based in Finland, as well as moderate a fly tying forum based in the US, and I realize spam is a never ending battle, but it is a battle that needs to be waged for forums to remain clean, healthy and active. Personally I think it reflects poorly having so much spam here, and if I owned the OP I’d either allocate active forum management, to be performed daily, or remove the forum, one or the other. Having links to porn from such a respected source is troublesome. Those members who post spam should be deleted and banned, as soon as possible.

true i think we all agree.

what is disturbing is the lack of 2 way communications with the admin staff. i post, pm, and email them. not one has come on to say anything or let us know they have gotten our complaints.
