North Rim Backcountry/Off-Road

I've combed through 4 years of OP issues trying to find an article that was somewhat of a guide to off-roads/back country of the North Rim of the GC and photo locations. I seem to recall that either Moose Petersen or Jack Dykinga was featured in the article; however, I am not having success. The article discussed not only locations but also preparation for one's vehicle (extra tires, tools, etc), I believe it was discussing a winter trek in the North Rim -- trying to provide as much detail as I remember.

Does anyone have suggestions of remote areas of the North Rim accessed via the off-road/back country roads?
