new guy technically challenged

Postby sirandi » Sun Feb 15, 2009 7:46 am

Ok, I'm new to this on line thing ... I'm trying to figure out how to post photos to the various forums ... looking for comments & suggestions ... so far I've not been successful in getting a photo to you guys ... any "A,B,C ..." type instructions would be helpful ... It's probably pretty simple but I don't seem to be getting it...
HELP!

Hi, I'm fairly new here too, but I've been posting pics online forever. When you go to post something here, right above the text box that you are typing in there is a box that says Img and if you click on that, you'll get your image brackets. (See the Img box between the * and URL boxes?) Right between there you will insert your URL where you keep your photos online (I use flickr).
So, I go to Flickr, right click on the image and then select properties, which will pull up a window that shows the URL address. Highlight it, copy it, come here, open a new post, click on the Img box above, and paste the URL from wherever you have your pictures between the Img brackets. At least, that is how I do it. I also maintain my folks' website, and I can do the same thing from their page - just right click any image, highlight the URL properties and paste them here between the img brackets.

Otter explained it very well.
If you don't have your photos on an online site[such as flickr, photobucket] you can do the following:
A. Below the "posting box" there is a tab you can click that says "Upload Attachment". Click that.
B. Click browse. there you will go to the file where the photo of your chioce is at.
C. Double click the photo. The photo name will come up in the box next to "browse"
D. Click "add the file"
TA-DA! you did it!
hope that was helpfull. (:

Photography~girl~,

When I follow your directions, I keep getting an "invalid file" message. The pictures are standard jpegs saved on my hard drive. I can't see any reason why they would not upload. Can anyone explain this?

I'm not sure, but when I tried it the file I was trying to upload was too big. I'm unfamiliar with your error message, mine said they only accept them up to a certain size.

Hmmm,that is quite odd.

*15min pass* i finally found something that i had that fit the forum's size.(most i had were to big) i wanted to see if the error came up for me to. My "photo"[well, icon more like it] is JPG, but i wanna say JPG and JPEG is the same thing. I'm not sure why it'd tell you that...sometimes computers are just weird. lol.
did you try to upload other photos?

you can reduce picture size either in a program like photoshop or a free one to download is called gimp. You reduce the file size, then save it as - and rename it something else. I start all my 'small' pictures with a 1 (so they go to the front of the folder) then name it whatever (tree, duck, etc.) followed by another number if I have several trees or ducks or what have you. I am pretty sure you can reduce the size of a photo in paint. It will ask you what percentage you want to reduce /resize the picture. Just put the same number in the horizontal and vertical boxes, then save it under a different name. (I just tried it). Your paint program is in accessories - it comes with windows, so you don't have to buy or download anything.

Sirandi,

I got the sunset shot jpeg to upload by saving it at a reduced size in Photoshop Elements. I also save jpegs at maximum quality, so I tried saving it at several reduced sizes. When I reduced it some it uploaded like oTTer's cool picture of the bear, with the horizontal and vertical sliders. When I reduced it a little more it uploaded as you see it. The final size was 6 inches X 4.5 inches at Medium quality. If you have Photoshop Elements, use the Resize option under the Image dropdown and try those dimensions.

I hope there are beach photos. I have never been to the ocean, and love to see what others see. Some photos are so good, I feel that I will be disappointed once I actually get there. The carolinas are pretty country though, so I am sure anything you post will be a treat.
