Picture size

I have noticed that when the rest of you post pictures they are much larger (and alot better quality but that's another chapter). Why is that? When I upload mine, I get a message that prevents anything over 256K ( I think) so I have to reduce them. BTW I am only using Microsoft Picture Manager. Help for the helpless.

I am not sure this matters, but I am linking from my flickr account, and not uploading from my computer. I am not sure you can upload from the computer.... but flickr resizes my images so that they aren't great big huge anyway. I think... I do resize mine before loading them to flickr, but they are all 8X10 or 12X15 sized. Maybe that is what the difference is, but I have never seen my photos come up here any bigger than maybe a 5X7 size.

I loaded this file directly from my computer and it displays the same as it does on my computer (that is when I click on it rather than using the scroll bars).
I did reduce the file size in PS.

Hi JK,

I generally up load mine to Photo bucket first and then copy the [img][\img] info across to the thread.

Much like Bob I also resize before sending the images to photobucket and try to keep the width of the image no larger than 800 pixels. That way I find I get a nice sized image that doesn't require scrolling across the screen.

When I convert the files to Jpg in Photoshop (Elements 6) I do have the option to compress the files down and generally aim to keep them about the 300K mark.

I use Smugmug which allows you to upload fullsize images with no compression

Then if you want to post on any forums or websites, there is a share button that will give you the [img][img/] tag and gives you multiple options as to which size you'd like to post it

This really helps as I know I have a fullsize back-up file offsite incase anything happens to my hard drives and different forums ask for different size pictures. So rather than post multiple pictures of the same picture but various sizes, I only have to upload the full size image once and go from there. Smugmug also helps as they put the watermark on it for you. So I dont have to have seperate galleries that I've watermarked in Photochop. I just edit or do what ever I have to do to each image, then upload it and I'm good to go
