Better Strap for camera

Postby stephaniekscott » Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:30 pm

Hey guys,
My 30D with my new 28-135 IS lens is now too heavy for the flimsy little Canon EOS strap that came with the camera (at least it's not very comfortable.)

I'm looking for a new strap, but see about a gazillion options. Now I know asking about a strap is like "asking about a pair of shoes..."

But still, what do YOU use...(for every day, sitting in a top loader style use, not when your hooking it to the front of your pack) I'm curious.

We started with this camera strap

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/5 ... lease.html

And both realized it sucked very badly as it stretches too far with the weight of the camera bodies with the grips and 'L' Lenses.

We moved up to these straps and both love them

This strap still keeps the shock absorbtion of the neoprene, but has a bit of fabric to hold the weight of the heavier lenses

We also bought these straps which are interchangable between the other Tamrac straps, and make carrying them while wearing a back pack amazingly comfortable

These 3 straps are an awesome combination for the person who likes to go between camera by itself or a camera on a pack.

I agree the Canon straps are not the best. I use the Think Tank straps(R360) on my 40Ds. They are woven nylon not neoprene, so they don't bounce. Good luck with your search.

I use an Optech on mine and I like it. Here's a link:

These folks have some nice looking ones too, but I haven't tried them:

Good luck with your search.

Most aftermarket straps make me nervous because of the quick release buckles. I'm worried one will come undone and the camera will fall to the ground. Anyone have experience with this (good or bad)?

Can't help with a strap as I am still looking for the 'perfect' one? However, I have a clip on my Lowerpro pack handle that I clip my strap to when walking around or hiking. It takes the weight off my neck and transfers it to my back and shoulders. :)

Thanks for the tip Mitchell! You can never have enough quality camera straps backed up, so I went and ordered one for free too!

I hate the normal straps that come on binoculars, spotting scopes and anything else that you might want to carry while hiking.

Thanks again! Another reason I love this Forum!

Do you have to be a member to get one of the free camera straps from Smugmug?

Thanks,
