The Egg Hunters

Postby Photography~girl~ » Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:38 am

I wasn't sure where to post this...since its not wild life, and deff not landscape. Not sport or travel. So...i stuck it here.
Anywho. I thought of this set up a few days before Resurrection Sunday, and HAD to do it. lol. I don't have the settings, because its not on my flickr.(flickr reads my settings, but facebook does not. oh well) I wanna say my f/stop was around 8.6 or something(i can't remember if 8.6 is even an f/stop. lol) So just tell me what you think about the comp. and whatnot. It was rather hard, since the back ground was so much more brighter then the forground(i guess that's what happens when its in the middle of the day) And now that i look at it again, it seems crooked. I was in an odd possition and didn't want to get my nice, white shirt all dirty.
anywho, i'll stop rambling now and show y'all this pic.
Image

and here's one just for fun(though prolly not the best picture ever...)lighting was terrible(i had sun on one side and lights on the other....arg.) but oh well. And i'm still having a hard time with my white blance.

i hope y'all had a wonderful Easter/Resurrection Sunday. :D

Hi AK,

Hope you had a good Easter.

I like the idea of the images, in the first one though personally I would chosen to have all the picture in focus not just the egg. Seeing that I can't see tthe exif data its a little hard to comment, but basically go for the widest lens angle you can get and I would of tried a few shots starting from F11 then going up..... f16 etc and kept the sharpest image.

Exposure in the first one is going to be hard to call be cause of the sunlight and shadows in the same shot. I would try to over expose the image without blowing the highlights and in post processing turn the exposure back down, this way it would limit any noise in the shadow areas. I'm not 100% sure if that is the best technique to use but that's what I would of done, or try a HDR shot.

With the second image again I would of gone for a little more depth of field so all of the word "Canon" is in focus, again closing the aperture slightly would of achieved this.

White balance in both looks fine, maybe the rock in the looks a little blue, but that may be its natural colour anyway.

Hi A.K.,

Good to see you posting again.

I like the first one just the way it is. I like having just the egg in focus with enough clairty in the background to allow you to figure out what is going on.
I think the hill and fence post on the left make it look crooked, but I believe it is straight.

I like the second too, but it may have been a little better if the egg had been turned enough to keep all of the word in focus.

Ed,
I didn't even think about doing everything in focus for the first shot. still learning i guess. lol. Thank you for the critiques! :)

Bob,
I agree with the egg shot. Didn't fully realize that till i looked at it on the computer...to bad the egg is now...well eaten. I'll know for next time!

thank you both the comments. :)

Photo Girl -

I like the first shot with the blurred background as it is.
I wanted to set up a similar shot at the church down the street when the dogwoods were in bloom -
- white dogwoods in focus, white church in background out of focus, with women/children in bright spring dresses going in or coming out of the church in the background, again out of focus.
But monsoons washed all the dogwood blossoms off in 1 day :x
Maybe next year :)

I like shots that focus on an object in the forground and blur the background, but still allow you to make out what the objects are in the background.

Here's a shot I took last year while "The Masters" golf tournament was being played. One of the identifying features of The Masters is that it is played while the azaleas are in bloom. BTW, please excuse the dust mark. I didn't notice it until I had already posted it on the internet.
