professionals posting images

I'm just curious if any of you have found your images on other websites, and if you do, what do you do about it?
I know a lady who has a network of friends that notifies her if they find one of her photos somewhere else. She shoots equine subjects, and a lot of what is stolen they find on the sim games. I think she contacts the admin. and asks them to remove it.

Pamela,

I don't shoot professionally, but have found links to my images on other sites that I didn't put there. When possible, I ask the admin to remove it and when not possible, or not removed, I lock my image so it can't be linked (this is an option on the site I use). The link will then just display the red x. After a while, someone normally removes the link and then I unlock my image. I have also deleted my images and then posted them back to my site. That won't stop them from linking to it again, but most people soon tire of doing this.

I've found quite a few of my images on various sites. Usually Myspace type stuff but one that bothered me was another forum I'm on all the time and a woman used one of my images as her Avatar. I called her out on it and she just ignored me like she knew nothing about what i was talking about.

I used to watermark my images right across the middle, but I've come to the conclusion that if someone wants your work, they will go to great lengths to get it. So I figure now I dont consider myself a professional, I consider myself a Charity Photographer. I take pictures and give them away :D

Go in and edit your image. Paste a picture of Janet Reno...Naked over the original. That should get it taken down soon!
