Hey AK I bet your head is spinning now :D :D

I hope you have a generous library nearby otherwise it may cost you a small fortune in books.

At the end of the day you need to do what you feel is right, but the bottom line is just because you have good qualifications doesn't mean you can do a good job.

There is no substitue for experience, the more you do it the more you learn.

I like Luca's idea, infact if had had more time I would probabley look into something like that, wouldn't of even given it a thought if you hadn't of started this thread so thanks !!!

Let us know what you chose.

Good luck with your selection.

Ed

Pokie,
:D I was really begining to wonder if anyone was going to mention that - 'cause thats what i first thought about how many ever weeks back. I figure if i can predict the weather pretty good(like if it'll be foggy, etc) i might get some cool photos. I'll check out the book you mentioned. Perhaps half my year will be light and the other half weather. Do you reccomend any other books??( think the science we normally use has a book about weather - but i believe its for elementary kids)

Ed,
Its actually not to bad...right now. Don't throw any hard math problems my way. Just got back from being at the beach all day, so i'm little...i'll say relaxed. haha.
lol. yeah. But my parents are used to spending money on books - we have been for the past 13 years. I bet i could find some of those books in the used section...perhaps.
yeahh. i need to get out more...like seriously. this week has just seemed crazy and blah blah blah - i know excuses are lame.
You're most welcome.
I'll be sure to keep y'all updated(though it may be a few months...i am on summer break here...)! =D

I want to major in Environmental Science with a specialization in water quality. Minor in Bio or Atmospheric Sciences. Not only do I love these fields of study, I figure I will have plenty of opportunities for outdoor photography. Something to consider. ;)

A.K.,
One of the things that none of us has asked is, are you planning on continuing your education? If you're planning to go to college, most require 3 credits in college preparatory science. Just want to be sure that you have taken that into consideration and select a course that would at least meet the minimum requirements to allow you entrance into your school of choice.

I am surprised no one has asked that yet. hehe.
I am not planning on going to college - unless God tells me to, which i highly doubt.(can't say that i mind...) So thinking about if i have enough credits and stuff is something i don't have to do(thus the reason i can choose what science i want to do. :D )
I'm not totally sure what i'm going to do once i graduate. There is a photography school in Montana(Rocky Mountain School of Photography), that has a summer "pro" course.(which is 11weeks plus an extra ten days of what you're going into- nature, portrait, studio etc.) You have to be 18 to go and i'd just be turning 18 when i'd need to leave - moving to montana for 11 weeks doesn't sound to...apealing to me.(well not being there...but being SO FAR from home.)
So next summer i'll be at home(probably anyway) and i'm looking into what Luca sugested(which has been a tad...chalenging.) And maybe get a job at the local camera shop or something. I'm not sure. And then summer of 2011 go to the school. But then i wonder, how much of it will i already know by then?? I mean, it says you don't need ANY photography experiance when you go to the school, and i'm learning so much from y'all and others...

So i don't really know. I would love to be an apprentice to a professional photographer - not sure how that works. But, i've got at least a year to figure it all out - plenty of time. :D

I'd suggest something in the natural science or else biology if you are interested in nature photography. Helps to understand the subject and what their patterns are I would think.

Physics would help you understand how things work and function. Would also include an introduction to light.

I would even suggest....

Find a science for a SECOND choice if you had to do something other than photography.

Since you like Macro photography, you could take a few botony classes online or at a local community college. :)

i don't mind macro photography. my mom is the one who really enjoys it...Right now i am reallllly leaning towards landscape photography, though due to the fact that i can't legally drive alone*sigh*, its a little more...chalenging getting to "landscape" areas. So I'm not 100% if that's what i want to "major" in so-to-speak, but...we'll see. (:

I know what you mean. I'm only 17 and my parents won't let me drive off on a photo hunt haha, nor can I drive between 9pm-5am so no sunsets. :(

well not really my parents...i still have my parents permit so i MUST(legally) drive with a parent or gardian. Once i get my licenses i can't drive from 12a.m-6a.m...i think.(i'm still a little confused with that because once you turn 17 you can drive any time...not sure how its all going to work.) haha. But for now i still need another 20hrs before i can even test for a license. *sigh*. lol.
Maybe soon though you will. (:

I got my license in May or something right before I turned 17 and I don't get my after-9 for 6 months.

AK - Weather is not that difficult to pick up, I'm sure you could easily find a book that will explain it to you.

When I took my pilots licence many years ago Meteorology was one subject I had to study. If anyone on here flies maybe they could recommend a pilots training manual for weather !!!

Apprenticeship with a Pro is an excellent idea, my wife and I were only discussing this today as I'm going to try and shadow a Pro for a day a week or as required to see if I can pick up any advice etc.
