Handmade Kayak

Took this while walking the grounds of the Alaska Native Heritage Museum.
During the summer they will have people out making stuff like this to show the tourist how they do it.

this was also made during a demonstration...

Man, I've always wanted to make my own kayak. THen I had a good friend spend the winter doing it in his basment, and by the time he was done, he said he would have just rather bought one already made...Ha! Ha!

Great Pics, thanks for sharing

I know I'm a little late on this one, but the kayak is pretty cool. My wife and I are both avid canoers (we have 2 canoes, an Old Town and a Smokercraft) and we've both done a little river kayaking. I've looked at some hand made canoes over the years but never saw a hand make kayak before...pretty cool. I think I would have to agree with Pat's friend though...for all the work that's gotta go into something like, I think I'd rather just buy one! LOL!!!

I like the shot of the totem, but I have to say that to me, there looks like a bit of barrel distortion in that shot. I guess it could just be the totem itself, but to me it looks like it's leaning towards the right towards the top of it. If you do any processing in Photoshop, I think there's a tool in there somewhere to correct that.

Anyways, cool shots...thanks for sharing!
Peace,
Jim

I love that totem pole (and the photo :)
Wish I had a yard to put one like that on.

How do I keep my kayak from being stolen from my car? A neighbor offered to let us borrow their sea kayak for a trip to the beach. I have a roof rack but am worried about it getting stolen from the parking lot of the hotel. How common is this? What can I do to prevent this?

Pat and I traveled with 2 sometimes 3 kayaks on our truck through 25 states and Mexico and never had an issue or a worry about them. Not sure how common it is but I have never heard of it before.
