Lens Advice

Hello All,

I have been looking at lenses and found the Nikon 50mm 1.8mm auto focus. The price on it is $134 at Adorama and I could probably get it cheaper if I keep looking. I wanted to know if any of you have any experiance with this lens. Everything that I have read is everyone is very happy with it and the photos look really great with it. I just thought that I would reach out to my OP family first to see what y'all had to say.

Get the 50mm f/1.4D, you won't regret it.

Is the little bit extra that I will get with the 1.4 worth the extra $190 that I would spend on it as compaired to the 1.8?

I'm not a Nikon guy but for only $150 difference I'd get the 1.4 over the 1.8, that's twice as much light it can capture.

That's because most of us know the Dark Side wont get you anywhere....LOL

I was shooting at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery center a few weeks ago and a guy standing beside me was shooting with a 200-400 f/4 VR Nikon lens. This is a very high dollar lens and one I'd drool all over and probably own if Canon made it. It's also a huge lens and very similar to the 500 f/4 in Canon's line-up.

I was beside him with my Canon 400 f/2.8 and I overheard his wife ask why so many people were talking to me about my lens when he basically had the same lens?

I could hear the anger in his voice when he relied "Because Canon makes their lenses WHITE, I dont know why, but everyone thinks just because the lens is white, its so much better than the Nikon stuff."

I had to laugh, and if the guy wasnt so angry, I probably would have gone over and talked with him. But it's true, white lenses get noticed.

As for the 1.8 or the 1.4, I'd save up and get the 1.4, it will probably be faster, and much better in low light situations! There is a reason they cost more

Canon lenses are white, because white reflects light. I won't complain about increased performance in sunlight haha. Anyway, whats with those funky taupe colored lenses?

zoom: 70-200 L

Zoom - 100-400

Actually, a lot would depend on what you shoot and your budget.
