Finally Upgraded to the 5D

Postby totalyfrozen » Tue Jul 07, 2009 3:25 pm

well my father made me a deal that I couldnt pass up.. he is buying the new Canon 5D and offered to sell me his old 5D. So jazzed I cant wait to get the heck out of work, I am heading to go fishing for the rest of the week and now I will have a new camera to play with. Now the only draw back now is that I have to get new lenses since all mine except for one are EFS lenses.

If he really loved you he'd give you the new 5D Mark II and keep the old 5D ;-)

Show him this post, maybe he'll feel guilty. LOL

LOL yeah right! Well two of my lenses from my XTi are EF lenses so they will hold me over till I can afford another lens.. unfortunately my IS lens is a EFS and wont fit :( lame since I just bought that not too long ago. Its increadible how much difference I see between the XTi and the 5D, just blows me away.

Congrats Charles! You're going to love this camera.

Dont get rid of your XTi, because you'll probably want te crop factor when shooting wildlife or need the extra range, but this is like jumping from a Ford Escort to a Ford Mustang Cobra! No comparrison!

The larger frame of the 5D, the scaled back dials, larger screen, better processor, full frame.....I could go on and on.

I absolutely love Full Frame for scenics and wide angles, and as long as I'm not trying to reach out too far, I love the images it gives me.

Probably the only thing I dont like about it is we tend to shoot alot of sports of action type photography, and the 5D is SLOW. But it's not made at all for that type of photography, so it's my own stupid fault for not having a 1D Mark III or a Mark IIn for when the need arises :D

Good luck, and have fun with the camera, I know you'll love it

So far I am loving it. As far as the 1Ds MarkII my father has one and when he gets to the point of upgrading I will get that one also. He just got in the new 5D and said he was blown away with it, cant wait to check that one out.

With the 5D Mark II and the 50D I finally feel like next time a new camera batch comes out I won't need to upgrade. The quality and responsiveness are so high it's a pleasure to use those cameras. I just need to get my hands on one of the new TS lenses. Anybody has $2500 to spare to help a poor photographer in Wyoming?

If that camera was a bit cheaper, I might buy it. It cost me $1200 to have my 28-300L lens rebuilt with all new focusing motors and internals when I dropped it in the Ocean. The body was unreparable, but Canon in Irvine said it was because it was salt water. I bet that body only needs a good cleaning, which should only cost a few hundred, but the lens will probably add another $5-700 what ever the total price is.

I've seen a few 5D Mark II's on POTN for around $2500, so all in all, that's a going rate by the time the Ebay people bid it up a little higher.

Sucks to be him though

Mint 1DIII w/ 8000 clicks is like same price as 5DII. I'd take the 1DIII any day. :)

I wouldn't. Sure, the 1D III is $1800 more expensive, but I'm a landscape photographer and I prefer a full frame camera. Also the 1D is only 10MP and for the size of prints I do I rather stick to 21MP.
