Camping & Outdoor Tips

Get Your Rocks On
When camping in bear country, take no food into your tent. Hang a pack containing all edibles at least 10 feet off the ground from a rope strung between two trees. Put pebbles in a couple of clean metal cooking utensils, and place them a stone's throw from your tent. Place a pile of throwing-size rocks within reach of your sleeping bag. If a bear awakens you by rattling the utensils, go on the offensive. Shout and throw rocks at the bear. Most bears, finding nothing to eat, will leave if threatened.
Saved by a Mirror
Whether you are in a boat or hiking in remote country, a pocket-size mirror can be a lifesaver in many critical situations. Use it to flash sunlight toward distant sources of assistance when you need to signal distress and draw attention to your location. Any small mirror will be helpful, but the polished metal mirrors sold in camping-supply stores are more durable than glass mirrors.

It seems like, even if it was a little bit out of the blue :)

i think a little randomness is good for people every once and a while. :D

now only if i knew how to scare off a bear when i was younger, then i wouldn't have been afraid of them(i was the slowest runner in my fam when i was like 9... )

My sister lives in Canada and every time they went camping this was always a concern for her.

My advice was to smear yourself in chill sauce, that way the bears will either spit you out on the spot or regret it the next day :D :D

That's my survival tip of the day.

haha. i think i'll just throw some rocks at them and make some bad music with my metal spoons and whatnot.
no, no. I'll shoot it first(with the camera) then throw the rocks then run for my life.
jk.

Luca,

I almost deleted it too since I think it is just a way to link to his web site, but didn't feel it was too flagrant so let it go.
We probably should have sent him a warning.

yeah Bob, after all the link is so small it goes mostly unnoticed. How do you like my little "warning" ? :-p

When in bear country is a good idea to speak loud or sing. I sing, and that keeps bears and pretty much anything living short of plants a good mile away. hahaha.
