Indian Village at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Festival

Postby Bonish Photo » Wed Jul 29, 2009 9:18 am

There was a cool Indian village at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Festival last week that was alot of fun to shoot. If the rodeo wouldnt have been going on and so action packed, I think I could have walked around here finding things to shoot all day long.

Pat, you and Cindy should have split up (I'm sure Cindy has said that to you many times :) ) so one of you could have covered that event.
Wonderful pics, but I'd love to see more.

#2 and #6 are actually Cindy's shots.

I didnt realize how much fun I was having shooting this section till I got back and saw the shots. But the Rodeo was alot more action packed. And I sort of felt guilty taking pictures of the Indians, they dont like their picture taken all that much. Or at least a few have told me so. Thats when it's good to have a long lens so you're not in their face :D

Thanks for the compliments though!

THanks guys, and Mitchell, I thought that was was really funny because you have this teenage girl in her full authentic dress, yet she's holding a brand new iPhone txt'ing like mad. It was just ironic for me.

On my way back from Cheyenne I was driving through Lander and as I was exiting the town so an indian Pow-Wow with beautiful colored costumes. I stopped to take a few photo (I didn't leave my cameras in Cheyenne this time) and had the idea to take one of the guys silhouette against the sun. I shot an intentional photo and showed it to an indian with a beautiful head hornamnent, then asked him if he would pose for me to get a similar shot. He agreed to, and one of these days I'll even get around to show you guys :D
(When I get a day off, which is not until 2047).

HAHA!

During the dances some of the guys were wearing sunglasses and I refused to take photos of them. I have no use for such photos.

Hey Shawn, glad you liked them. Probably one of the best events we've ever been to. Where else can you go that in a weeks time you can see a top national act every night of the week....Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, Jake Owen, George Strait, PBR Bull Riding and that was just the night time events.

During the day, there was non-stop rodeo action going all day long. A photographers paradise and one of the events I'd plan a yearly trip around!

All are good Pat....but that second one is world class. Perfect exposure, perfect depth, perfect pose.

Beautiful life like images! I would have done a video footage of the kids and ladies in their elaborate costumes.

Anytime I see photos from the state of Wyoming I freak out! Great work capturing the essence of Frontier Days. For those of you who don't know, Cheyenne Frontier Days in truly one of the great events in America. If you are even remotely interested in Western culture, rodeo, country music, or just having a good time I highly recommend it!
