Assignment Aug 09

Postby Edd » Sat Aug 22, 2009 12:52 am

Hi All,

We're having a go at trying out the assignments again, you remember we allot time for you to take shots of a particular subject then have a poll to see who submitted the best image.

The winner then choses the next subject. :D

The idea is to learn from each other, hopefully new techniques for shooting and editing to improve our images. 8)

We'll give ourselves a time frame of a week (plus a little in this case) and then take a poll to chose a winner.

Our subject for this one will be fruit. :D

You can either go and buy some from the supermarket or go for a walk in your garden or around a field and see what it growing. It doesn't have to be edible (not for us anyway) but at this time of year there should be plenty starting to ripen up now ready for the fall.

Take as many images as you like and post no more than your best three on this thread.

Talk about what you did to get the shot, settings etc and any editing that you may of carried out on the images.

You can use stacking if you want to help increase depth of field, or use a spray to add a touch of moisture to your subject.

Finishing time will be Midnight Sunday (30th August), then we'll start a poll for five days to see who wins. :D

Remember this is open to all no matter what camera etc.

Good Luck to you all.

Looking forward to seeing those shots.

Ed

Well i guess im the first one :)

this was taken a few weeks ago so i dont know if it still counts :?

I dident do mutch for this picture, all i did is use my external flash and bounce it of the cupboards (is that how you spell it???)
Then in lightroom i did a whitebalance corect.
But i still couldent get the reds in the tomatos to be A true red with out them looking overly red.
so i changed it so the red were way over red then decreased the over all saturation.

if not. then i took this shot um...a few weeks back. I even printed it and gave it to the guy who owned them(it was at a farmers market.)

Ok, I've been thinking of a shot all day, and I'll work on it tomorrow. Being in yellowstone, we dont really have access to fresh fruit and the nearest grocery store is an hours drive away, so it's gonna have to be an apple, but I'll try and make it look cool....if that's possible :D

Sorry guys either I have my timing wrong or I have misled you.

Do you have berries on trees and bushes etc ???? :?

That was my line of thought but if you you want to shoot apples that's just as good.

ANOTHER TOMATO!!

I did this one last night like at 10:00 so there was no light other than what i put on it.
I used my reflector and a peice on white foam board for the backroung and for the tomato to sit on.
i shined a flash light on to the front'ish side of the tomato then put a green gel over my external flash.
I turned off all the lights in my room, and i had my camera set for A 1.6 sencond exposer with a ten sencond timer, becuase i dont have a wireless transmitter for my flash or a cord yet so this way i could push the shutter button then wait for it to hake the picture then i would have 1.6 senconds to fire my flash a bunch of times..

For post procesing all i did is add some clarity in lightroom then exported.

Ed,
I have fruit here in Michigan. Raspberries, blueberries(i think...) peaches etc. lots of fresh stuff. I am SOO happy you picked this topic. It was the best tasting assignment ever. :D I just HAD to make a peach pie for it...HAD to you, ya know... ;)

Who's judging?

If I had to pick, I think Mitchell put the most amount of work into his shot so far! Very nice stuf from all of you though

Like I said, we dont really have fresh fruit here in Yellowstone, we had one apple in the camper, and I brought it to work and set uit in the window sill for lighting

Rest of this was done in photochop. Made a few copies of the apple, adusted them so it looked like multiple apples and made the gradient background to look like I used studio lighting :D Not my best work, but I worked with what I had.

Image

Now pick wildlife for the next assignment, and I'll have a field day to work on it...LOL

Thanks Pat,

"Who's Judging ????" We all are. :D :D

Early tomorrow I'll start a poll and the one who receives the most votes wins and gets to choose the next topic.

Again anyone can vote it doesn't have to be limited to the participants either, so to all please feel free to vote for your favourite shot. :D

I need to get back to looking at my shots and chose which ones to post :?

Okay here are my images finally !!!!

Both of these were taken using extension tubes and both have been edited in Elements 6.The adjustments were levels and a touch of saturation, because of the colour of the berries the red seemed to saturate quite quickly making the images look awful.

Both images have been taken indoors because we have had the tail end of Hurrican Bill pass over causing quite a bit of wind so shooting outdoors was not a good idea.

Anyway here is the first one.

Image

With this second one I plunged the berries into water first then I tried to get the reflection of a berry in the water droplet. I found that I needed to raise the camera quite a bit and the angle started to look a bit odd so I stopped and shot from that angle. It would of been nice to move the berry around so it was all included in the droplet but that just wasn't possible.

Image

I think a darker dark ground would of worked better, I would of reshot these today but my wife has hijacked the camera.
