HDR how to...

Ever wanted to ask a professional how they approach the landscape or wildlife or how they set up their camera for great photographs? What about asking what kind of gear the pro uses and why? Well here's your chance.

HDR how to...

Postby alycetaylor » Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:27 pm

Hi all

I am interested in trying to do some HDR photography, but don't quite seem to have the technique down. My results thus far have not exactly been satisfactory.

I shoot with a Canon XSi and have Adobe Photoshop CS3 for editting.
The technique I have tried is to shoot (using a tripod and the camera timer so no shake) 3 images.. one +1 f-stop, then one -1 f-stop, and the last -2 f-stops.
When i get home I process them in PS CS3 using the 'merge as HDR' function.

The results haven't made me happy..

Any tips?

Use Photomatix or one of those HDR software rather than Photoshop and see.

I am happy with my HDR using Photomatix, you can try trial Photomatix, and if you feel happy you can buy it later.

Good luck!

Can you post some examples of what you're not happy with?
