Jackson Hole Sunset

Postby gldiana » Fri Sep 25, 2009 9:20 pm

The smoke from the Yellowstone fire has reached Jackson Hole and is covering it causing some amazing sunset. Inspired by yesterday's sunset (the most beautiful of the year here) today I hiked Snowking Mountain to grab a shot of the valley (Jackson Hole), the town if Jackson is in the foreground with the Tetons in the background and the Elk Refuge is the big empty space right below (in case there's anyone left who's not familiar with this place :) ).
This image is a 3 frame HDR.

Not sure what's happening but the photo on the website looks much darker than it does on my other pieces of software.

Very nice hdr. I've never seen Jackson Hole before, at least not like this.

I had a problem with the lightness/darkness on the web with a shot awhile back. It had something to do with not having it in srgb or something or other. The print came out like I wanted it to though.

Luca, that shot is stunning, one of your best.

Just so you know, that fire that is causing all the smoke in the Teton's is a fire that is just North of Jenny Lake.

We talked with one of the rangers and he told us there are two that are naturally caused in the immediate Teton Range, and there are two that are controlled burns that are on the East Range behind the Elk Refuge

Thanks Pat. Yes, the fire is the one in BearPaw lake, when I took the photos I wasn't aware of that one as it was a new one. Yesterday I guided a kayak trip in Slide Lake and the GV fire was big and right above us. Damaging but the view of those big flames from the lake was awesome, plus we had an helicopter scooping water right next to us.

We were joking about it, finding a kayak with a kayaker on top of a tree. Just talked to a ranger, BearPaw Lake fire just got bigger and they started controlling it.
