Postcards from Brazil

Postby gldiana » Fri May 22, 2009 6:06 am

The end of this long series of trips is approaching (Italy, Hawaii, Scotland and Brazil, in that order) and since tomorrow I'll be departing from Rio de Janeiro heading back to good old Jackson Hole, I'm sharing a few photos I took here in Brazil. All photos taken with the Canon G10 (I didn't dare bring my SLRs, also wanted to travel really light, all I have is a small backpack).

A view of Rio from the statue of Christo Redentor, the arrow shows the location of my hostel, very convenient and cheap ($10/night including breakfast)

Some fishing boats anchored on the harbor of Angra dos Reis. This is where my friend and I and a bunch of other guys met in our hostel left for an amazing tropical island called Ilha Grande (pronounced: Eelia Grahnji). Had an amazing time hiking, scuba diving and eating (a lot). We were supposed to stay for 2 days but remained there for 3).

A fishing boat anchored beyond the harbor of Ilha Grande as we head up the hill for a hike.

The view from the saddle. We're hiking toward some more remote beaches. The island has 104 of them, with the finest sand I had ever seen in my whole life.

Other views from Ilha Grande. We all returned to Rio with the intention of visiting this island again in the future and see/do more.

Luca,

Bom dia!

Nice shots of another place on my list of "places to go."

How do you like the G10?
I loved my old G3.

Hi Pokie,

bon día a vocé. I like the G10, it packs great quality and only a few times I regretted not having my SLR (and mostly because I wished I had my 100-400).

Nice series and title, Luca. That first image has to be one of the most popular postcard images from Brazil. I've never seen your pic before, but I've seen something similar many times.

If you hadn't told us you were shooting with a G10, I doubt that most of us would have realized that you hadn't taken these with a DSLR. It's not always the camera is it?

Thanks Bob.
I can't take credit, the G10 is a good camera even in my hands ;-)

I'm definitely well aware that this is an older post, but I just so happened to stumble upon this thread while searching for photographs of South America. My, my those photographs are gorgeous -- they certainly ARE very "postcard" like. Have you considered submitting these photographs to a greeting card company or having your own postcards printed? Not only is the quality superb, but the composition is just as good.

I just so happen to be a freelance photographer for my local newspaper. My work isn't anything special, but I could certainly learn a thing or two. Anyway, awesome photos! :)

Thank you very much! I haven't been on this forum in a long time, been too busy working and traveling but still getting notification of new posts for threads I started.
Never submitted these photos to any company... it's on my list of things to do and that's a very long list, I do have a few trips coming up though so maybe I'll post some new photos here again soon.
