If budget is a big concern, have you considered buying used or refurbished? You might also want to consider just buying a body and picking up a used lens. Many people buy the kit lens then decide that the quality was not what they were expecting and upgrade. You can save a few bucks by just skipping the kit lens in the first place and buy one that will suit your needs.
BTW, you might PM Luca about his 50D. I believe I read in one of his posts that he planned on sellilng it and upgrading to the 7D.
I'm sure he'll make you an offer that you can't refuse.
You could also take a look at http://www.fredmiranda.com
. I've bought and sold a number of lenses on that site.
There's also http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum
I haven;t bought on this site, but wouldn't be too concerned about buying from an established member.
There's also Craigslist too. You would have the advantage of actually checking the merchandise if you bought from a local source.
Just some ideas, Craig, that might help reduce the initial outlay. Good luck with your search.
