Assignment 27 Oct 09

Postby Bonish Photo » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:14 pm

Ok, so we all agreed, the new assignment will be "What we want to be when we grow up" This picture should not only tell a story, but should show a profession or a subject that is easy to figure out and one that the viewer can look at and know what the shooter is trying to convey.

Deadline will be October 25th which will give us more than a week and a half to come up with the shots. Post your images in this thread, and on Monday the 26th, I'll have Cindy, since she's the winner from last week create a Poll thread for all of us to vote and give our reasons for why and who we voted for.

Good luck and more importantly, have fun!

The photo should be of someone or something that you either strive to become, have admiration for or have ever considered as a carrier. I don't think it neccesarily has to tell a story, just something that inspires you. It might be nice to include a note saying your reason for the inspiration or desire to want to become this photo.

Well I must admit, this was a tough chalenge. I am not even sure what i want to be when I "grow" up - i get asked so very often now. I thought and thought. "Well," i said to myself, "i will probably do something with photography. But how can I do that? Most my photographer friends live hrs away, and my mentors don't like their pic taken. What am i going to do? Take a picture of myself? Fun stuff right there."
But i got to thinking outside the carrier world. I know i want to become a wife a mother one day. Hm. how to do THAT. mom isn't a huge fan of her pic being taken. So. I am stuck again.
Its my dream/goal, to become like the "Provbers 31 Woman"(if you have no idea what/who that is, find a Bible and read Provbers 31:10 - 26[? not sure what the last verse is.) So I got out my precious Bible, opened it to Provbers 31, and began to think of how to shoot this in an interesting fashion. I asked to barrow the parents wedding bands(and mom's engagment ring), and got to work.
So here is my photo for the assignment.
The only photoshop done to this photo is some sateration and brightness. Tell me what you think of it. (: thank you.

(i have another where its got what i call the "dizzy effect", but, i went with this one, since you can actually read it. ahaaha.)

there is a Hagar cartoon on my bulletin board at work... Young girl tells her mother "I want to get married and be happy for the rest of my life." Her mother says, "Pick one."
I hope you find both someday :D

I love it, I like the placement of the ring also so that you can see "THE WIFE". If I could only be half the woman these verses talk about!! LOL

I Got My Dream

Postby Roger S » Tue Oct 20, 2009 3:06 pm

OK, as a newbie here, maybe this is a mistake. All I know is that what I wanted to be, became very real, and I created a photo record of it.

If this image is not acceptible for this assignment, I will remove it.

of all the things I can think of that I wanted to be when I grow up, married was Never Ever one of them. I was too busy dreaming of being a horse.
So, do I post a picture of (another) horse?? Does that even make sense, wanting to be a horse? I used to crawl around the lawn eating grass. So, since I can't be a horse, I have one.
Firefigher, baker, manicurist... all things someone can grow up to be, and I can't for the life of me think of something I wanted to be. I paint, and yet I never wanted to be an artist. 43 years old, and no clue what I want to be when I grow up. Probably because I'm happy doing what I am doing, there's no point wanting anything else. How do you take a picture of that?
Only two other photos, and both are wedding themed. The second one kind of confuses me, there is a single ring and an open lock. So, does that mean someone was cut loose from the marriage? It's an open marriage? Would it have a different meaning if there were two rings, or one ring but the lock closed? Interesting.

well i must admit, Roger, i am also a little confused on what your picture means. I don't think its a bad picture though. Would you mind explaining it a little further? If you don't want to - I'll respect that. (:

I don't mind at all. I never thought there could be confusion over this, with the ring placed just to the right of "hereby divorced" on the court order. Thanks for the feedback. I may have to rework this somehow to avoid having the point missed.

Kudos, Roger. Understand that is a Canadian document, so I had a hard time reading it (I'm just kidding). I suppose the lock and key was better sized than a ball and chain? Love it. Also, makes ya think! (twice, perhaps?)

The project was to post what you want to be, who you look up to or who or what you admire. I chose this photo because I have lived a motto my entire life time, even when I was a kid, unfortunately for my parents, I always said I would try anything once. I have lived up to that motto and have no regrets on what I have attempted or tried. The only thing that I haven't done and really want to do is be able to have no fear of heights. I would love to jump from an airplane, sky dive across the canyons of Moab, base jump from a bridge spanning a gorge the size of the Grand Canyon or at this point in my life, climb a latter without freaking out! I think that loss of fear would represent freedom from a cross I've bared for a long time.

As a little girl, I would will myself to climb an old Crab Apple tree which at the time was so enormous and life threatening in height. The tree was 8 houses down from my house and climbing up was no problem however, the climbing down was impossible. I would sit in that tree for hours waiting for Only my father to climb up the tree and carry me back down. He didn't get mad at me for climbing up the tree but he would be angry at me for not having the courage to climb back down.

Needless to say, I admire and respect anyone who doesn't share this fear with me and I only wish my mind would allow my to experience the same freedom.
