Propper use of circular polarizer

Postby JeffreyEttinge » Tue Nov 10, 2009 8:10 pm

I have been making use of my circular polarizer lately, and I have had an annoying problem. It seems that the sky often is not uniform in color, and will go from a deep blue to a light blue as I look horizontally across the frame. Am I just not using it right, or do I need a better polarizer? Jeff.

Jeffrey,

Welcome to the forum!!

There are a number of factors that control how polarizers work, but rather than trying to explain it all, I'll just supply a link to a tutorial:

Hope this helps.

Don't worry to much about the technical details of how a polarizing filter works.
The easiest thing to do is rotate the filter until the image in the viewfinder is what you want.
