What a memory hog

Postby peter nap » Wed Mar 04, 2009 12:32 pm

I broke down and got Adobe Master Suite CS3 today....What a hog. I have a fairly new laptop and it takes a while to load. It will also still not read Canon CS2 RAW files. Adobe says there is fix on their site.

I guess I'll be going to the bookstore again this evening

Peter,

Congrats on the new software! CS3 loads faster than CS2 did, so be glad you just had to get the last release. Regardless of the load time, it's worth it. Very powerful program although it has a steep learning curve. I bought a tutorial program and still haven't completed it. It seems that my free times comes in spurts rather than periods long enough to string a few hours together to complete a training session. You can download the fix to allow you to open Canon's RAW image files. As I said, I'm about as far awary from mastering this software as I can get, but if you have questions, there are a number of users on here that are very talented with Photoshop. Good luck with the program, Peter.

For some reason the updater didn't work so I had to force feed it. It is reading my RAWs fine now.

Any recommendations as far as books?

The tutorial that I have is "Adobe Photoshop CS3 one-on-one" by Deke McClelland.
This one has a CD and he walks you through the exercises. I hope to finish them someday. :)

How about downloading it just online? But anyway, you just said that your computer performs slower so i guess you have to buy it again.

Peter, Check out Scott Kelby's books on CS3, very informative and easy to understand

CS3 is so much better than CS2. I think your computer needs a minimum of 1gig of ram just to be able to run CS3, so make sure it's maxed out on the ram, which is fairly inexpensive. When I moved up to CS3, I also upped the Ram to my cpu's max and it made a considerable difference in speed of the program
