Extend Flash Range

Postby edfitz » Thu Dec 31, 2009 5:26 pm

I have a Nikon SB800 and need to extend the range when I'm out in the field. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum, Ed!

If you're using a 300mm lens or greater, try the "Better Beamer". It's inexpensive, breaks down to a small package and does a nice job.
Here's a link to one at Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/FAFX4.html?searc ... ter+beamer

This shot was taken with a Canon 30D, a Canon 100-400 at 400, a 1.4x teleconverter and a Canon 580EX flash with a Better Beamer.

I second the Better Beamer

We dont own one, but I've used a friends a few times and its next on my list of items to purchase

You might want to check out the Wimberley Flash attachments because if you're using a big lens, you might need to extend the flash out over the lens to get it where you need it to balance out the load

This is great. I lack much knowledge in flash uses, techniques, and indoor photography. My kids love going to the dallas cultural center where they can learn about the Chicasaw people, but I can never get good pictures because I don't have a good flash. I will definitely have to check some of thse out! Thanks!
