Pricing Photos

Postby CG415 » Wed Apr 07, 2010 10:05 am

Hello All,

My wife's aunt in Georgia has asked me to send her some of my photos so that she can display them in her restaruant, so that she can try to sell them for me. She said right now everyone has been giving her 8x10s and they don't stand out to well. So I will be sending her some 11x14s matted and framed in a 16x20 and some 12x12s matted and framed in either a 14x14 or 16x16. Each one is going to cost me about $15 to $20 total for the frame, matting and photo printing. My question is how do I figure out what to ask for them? My wife's aunt said that most of the 8x10s are priced at $39 matted and framed.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,
Chris Gallagher

If they're selling the 8x10's for $39, that works out to about $.49 per square inch.
If you wanted to follow that line of pricing, a 16 x 20 = 320 square inches * .49 = $157 (rounded to nearest dollar amount).
The 14 x 14 = 196 * .49 = $96.00 and the 16 X 16 = 256 X .49 = $125.

That may not be the best business model since the image itself is not considered, but it would give you a starting point.

Good luck, Chris.

Ive sold a 13X19 un framed/matted with only a backing board for packaging for 75$ at auction, im sure in the summer time the turrists would pay a little more. an 8 1/2 X 11 for 10$, but that was a last minute sale when i was doing a booth and it was about to close.

I am working on getting some more sold at a local gas station, for resale. there price is 35$ then they mark it to what ever they want. my price is about 15$ so im making about 57% off of them.

Im kinda at the same spot you are, these are just the prices i decided to go with.

Hope this helps, good luck.

How are you getting matted and framed 11 x 14"s for $15 to $20? Doing them yourself? I do my own including making the frames and buying glass by the case and still have about $20 into them. Also, if your doing your own, how do you get an even matt around an 11 x 14 in a 16 x 20 frame? I put mine in a 16 x 19 frame.
