Two camera harness

Postby edfitz » Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:59 pm

I'm looking for a two camera harness that will keep the cameras off my neck. I've seen the Cotton Carrier but I'm looking for a carrier that I can hang a camera off of each shoulder. The tropics are too hot to have anything around my chest.

Hi,
I'm not aware of any carrier that allows hanging the camera at the shoulders... can't even picture it, seems unpractical. But I hear you about the heat of the tropics... maybe they should invent one with a fan :)

Good luck! Let us know what you come up with... and of course I'm curious to see the photos you'll take there.

There is also the Black Rapid Double Strap

I've never used this myself, but I know there is a multiple page thread going on in the POTN Forum where users have talked about it and praise it till no end

Might want to give it a look and see if it's what your looking for

Actually, there are other options out there. You might be interested in a shoulder harness that keeps your binoculars in place without looking clunky. My Binocular Harness might be a good choice for you.

How will a Binocular harness hold two cameras off his/her neck?? Got any photos of this set-up in use?

Thanks to all that replied. I found a source for what I need. Its OP/TECH USA.com and they have a harness that lets you hang a camera off each shoulder and keeps the straps off your neck. Adorama sell them. I just got it as I was in Madagascar photographing Lemurs. I attached the cameras in about five minutes and they feel comfortable. I can swing either camera to eye level easily and they don't bang around my waist. They have a sliding attachment that makes the camera stay put and swing without binding. Off to Galapagos and then Indonesia in June and July. It will be a good test for this setup.

With long camera straps, couple length's of nylon web and some velcro you could probably make your own. Using velcro to tie the two straps together, it would be easy to take apart and use a single strap if you wanted to.

I'd be happy to spend a little extra to have someone else make the straps that I'm going to be hanging a few thousand dollars worth of equipment off of :D

I made a trip to Sea World in Orlando last weekend. I had recently ordered a Black Rapid camera strap. It was the neatest way to carry my camera yet. It's an over the shoulder sling that takes the camera off your chest and puts it at your hip. Very kewl. Look up BlackRapiddotcom.

Just back from the Galapagos and the Jungles of Ecuador. I had a chance to use the dual camera strap harness and it worked well. In the Jungle I had a lot of trails that were just about there and had to hop over a lot of trees and boulders and the cameras stayed in place well enough to keep them out of the way and not bang around. In the Galapagos we were in and out of Zodiacs making wet landings in small wave surges. The cameras stayed right where they were supposed to, no swinging around like a camera around your neck. I'm 5' 7" tall so the cameras were pretty close to the salt water. No problems. The best thing was there was no weight on my neck as the harness sat comfortably on my shoulders. I was amazed how much better I felt after lugging two DSLRS around for hours at a time. Problem solved and I'm off to Indonesia in a week for three weeks. I don't anticipate any problems carrying two cameras, if so I'll let you know what happened.

Edfitz, great to hear the system worked out for you. Got any photos of the harness in action?
