Riding Motorcycles in Moab Utah

Postby Bonish Photo » Fri Oct 09, 2009 7:50 am

Passing through Utah, we stopped off in Moab to check out the scene. I got a buddy who owns DualSport Utah that we had met a few years back while covering the Red Bull Last Man Standing Race in Bulcher Texas.

Jim Ryan owns this touring company out of Moab and has been bugging me to stop by and go for a ride with him.

Well Cindy and I roll into town and hook up with Jim. We spend a day just fooling around, hiking Arches National Park with Jim's wife and checking out the scene before we head out riding. He's going to be touring another couple who is visiting from Missouri that are both very experienced riders.

So we all head out early in the A.M. to see what Jim has in store for us. Little did we know we'd spend the better part of 8 full hours in the saddle covering some of the best, most hidden single track this area of Moab has to offer.

We'd all be riding KTM's with everyone riding 2 storkes except for me who would be on a 450ex

The day was spent logging over 60 miles riding terrain that makes people sell their homes and buy a bike to take up riding for a living

Sand, Slick Rock, Slot Canyons, Dunes, Massive Hills, Fire Roads, Single Track.....You name it, we rode it!

When the day was done, I told Cindy that "If I never rode a motorcycle again, I'd be satisfied because of toays ride!" But then again, after a day like today in the saddle, all I can think about is getting back out on the bike!

If and when you make it into Moab, look up Jim and ask him to take you out for a ride. Make sure you're good and warmed up before you call him though, or your arms wont be able to hold up for too long afterwards

It looks like you had a GREAT time and you certainly got some great shots!

The two wheelies heading into the puddle really capture the moment!

Thanks for sharing.

Stunning as always Pat.
I wish you would at least give a hint as to your settings though. Your photos always have so much depth and life in them and I'd love to get some idea as to how you go about it (Yes, I tried peeking at the EXIF)

Hey Peter, sorry the EXIF data doesnt transfer from my SMugmug account, but if you go to any of our galleries, and mouse over any of the images you're interested in, a tab will open that says Photo Info. All the EXIF data is there and in good detail

I wish they would copy over, but dont know what sort of setting smugmug has that doesnt let it copy the info

Feel free to ask about any photo and I'll do my best to explain what I did to get the shot. I mean that's why we're all on the forum right, to learn!

With slickrock sections, looping singletrack, sandy washes, and incredible scenery, the Intrepid Trail System provides a great taste of what Moab mountain biking is all about. This is the perfect ride for families and offers spectacular views of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park.

The Intrepid Trail System has three hiking and biking loops ranging from one to nine miles with varying degrees of difficulty. The easiest and shortest loop is Intrepid, followed by Great Pyramid, with Big Chief as the most challenging. The nested loop trails will offer opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities, and provide breathtaking views.
