Greetings from Perù

Postby gldiana » Wed Oct 31, 2007 7:35 am

Waiting for my flight to Cuzco from Arequipa (what a beautiful town, wish I could've stayed longer) and thought I'd drop in and say hello and share a couple of shots.

This is the oasis of Huacachina, near Ica (the area that suffered from a major earthquake 2 months ago). People everywhere were extremely nice, here we were treated very much like family:

Walking in the desert... up at 5 in the morning to catch the sunrise and hiking in the dunes before they get super hot (around 8:30am). Too much mist for sunrise shots but was nice nonetheless (and good exercise)

We went out on a dune buggy and tried sandboarding. Lots of fun!!
4 days later I still have some sands in my pockets, ears and everywhere else...

And the last one (for now)... this is our bus after we crashed on the way to Arequipa from Nazca... big scare but fortunately nobody got hurt... No more overnight bus rides for us, roads are too dangerous (because of how people drive... like in Boston. lol ).

Oh Wow Luca! I really like the second shot.. Sounds like a fun filled and unexpectantly exciting adventure! Seems there is plenty of sand to cushion any fall.. 8)

Luca great series of shots!

That second one looks like it could be an advertisement for a bottled water company or something that makes you think of drinking. It makes me thirsty just looking at it.....LOL

Wild ride on that bus!! Looks like something that would happen if my wife was driving.

Gordon, just wait till you get to Florida this winter, that's when you'll realize that 75% of the rest of the country retires to the Sunshine State.

So you have a mix of awful drivers from 80% of the other states all trying to miss each other at the intersections.

I know this is awful to say, but when we used to live there, my buddies used to be sitting at a red light, and if in the car in front of them, they could only see knuckles, they would lay on the horn, and without looking up, the car would just drive through the light! I'll admit I never did it, but the first time I saw it I was so shocked that I think I had to change my shorts.

Florida has to have the worst driving of all the other states combined.

Sorry if I just hi-jacked Luca's thread.
