What is YOUR camera?

Hello Fellow Photographers. I thought this might help those on the lookout for their first or upgraded camera.

I have used the Canon EOS 10D for about three years now. I have 5 lenses that I use along with it. (I'll post the specifics later, but they include a macro, a wide angle, 100-300mm, two 'short' standard-type lenses, all Canon except the last one, which I do not use)

I will be upgrading, God willing, to the Canon EOS 5D 12.8 MP Digital SLR Camera later this month.

I shoot with a Canon 30D and my Canon lenses are 10-22, 17-55, 28-135, 70-300, 100-400, 35L, 50 f/1.4, 85 f/1.8, 135L 200L. I also have a Sigma 150 macro.

Hey Robin...welcome to the forum!
My main camera is a Canon Rebel XT and I have a few lenses...Tamron 70-300mm & 28-80mm, Sigma 17-50mm and a Canon 50mm 1.8 "II". For most of my stuff, I usually use my Tamron 70-300mm. Additionally, I also have a Sony H1 (EVF) and I still have my old Canon FTb 35mm (rarely used anymore). I'm hoping sometime in the near future to pick up a fast Canon IS lens, but I'm still debating on focal length. As I said in a recent thread, my dream glass is a nice 17-600mm f/1.4 IS...which of course, no one makes (yet) and even if they did, I probably couldn't afford it anyways! LOL!!!

I also have a variety of filters and accesories as well, but what I use most is my Cokin P series polarizer and split ND filters.

I'll be the odd man out here, I'm shooting a Nikon D50 with a Promaster 28-80 lens. I've just recently retired my old EM, so I haven't added any new glass. On my list is the Tamron 18-250, a Macro lens and a fast 50mm lens.

Hey Dan,
I've been hearing some really good things about that Tamron 18-250...it's supposed to be pretty sweet. With that much zoom range, it's gotta be a really nice "walking around lens". I'm a really big Tamron fan myself...in fact my only gripe is that they don't really have any image stablized lenses. I have the 70-300mm "LD" which I got off Ebay for $90 and it has produced some VERY sharp images indeed, but without IS I pretty much have to have a tripod strapped to my leg. If/when Tamron comes out with an 18-300 IS, I'll probably sell my car and buy one! LOL!!! Hopefully, they'll even make it an f/2.8 .

Don't worry about being the "odd man out". Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Olympus...it's all good! As I've said many times, the tools are only as good as the person using them...cameras don't take great pictures, photographers do. To be totally honest, my primary reason for going with Canon myself was pretty much financial. At the time I got my Rebel XT, I was able to get it as a refurb off Ebay (with warrenty) for $400 when they were still going for $800 new in the stores. If money hadn't of been as much of an issue, I probably would have gone with a Sony Alpha or a Pentax K10D instead. The Sony's have the very nice advantage of having the image stablization built right into the camera instead of having to buy IS lenses (very nice) where as the Pentax had the advantage of being able to use virtually any Pentax "K mount" lens. While my Canon has been a really great camera, it does have a few draw backs with the biggest being that Canon IS lenses tend to be really expensive (kind of like the Nikkor VR lenses)...which is why I'm still using the Tamron's myself. I've also had problems getting non-Canon flashes to work (or at least work correctly) with my XT. The Sigma and Promaster flashes won't work with the E-TTL II correctly (if at all) and of course the Canon 580EX II is $500.

Anyways, when you get that 18-250, please let us know and please post some pics...I'd like to see some "real life" examples of what that lens can do!

My wife and I shoot with the Canon 1D (THe first one, not the many new ones that have followed) and I'll swear by any of Canon's Pro Bodies. I've shot with this camera in the driving rain covering a High School football game for multiple hours and never had a problem with it.

We also have the Canon 30D which is an awesome camera for the money. I'd love to move up to the 5D for the full frame, but if I only could find that money tree we're searching for

As for lenses, we have the Canon 28-300 L f/3.5-5.6 which is a fantastic lens. It has the USM Motor and has Image Stabilization built in which helps with it not being as fast as my Canon 70-200 L f/2.8. That lens is worth every bit of it's high price tag and is amazing for concert photography, anything low light or fast action. It also has the USM motor and the built in Image Stabilization.

The camera bag also has a few other lens which include a Canon 28-105, a Sigma 17-35, a Sigma 15mm Fisheye and a set of Kenko Extension Tubes that I just got, but havent really had any serious time to play with yet.

For Flash, we use the Canon 580EX and a stophen reflector attached to the top of it which stays on 90% of the time. I try and always shoot natural light, but the flash does come out on occasion when I'm trying to pull out some detail in the shadows.

I used a Minolta 9xi, the fastest camera in the world for prosumers (1/12000 sec) for many years and then moved to Digital with a Canon EOS 30D.
Looking at a 40D and 5D but might wait and get the (eventually) 6D.

First off, welcome to Robin and Professional.

I guess I'm another odd man out on this forum. I pretty much always carry a Nikon D70 and Sigma 18-55/2.8, Nikkor 50/1.8, Tokina 400/5.6, and I just picked up a Nikkor 55-200 VR/4.5. I also carry a Sigma 1.4 TC and a set of extension tubes. There are also some other lenses laying around which I have replaced with one of the above.

I'd like to pick upa new body, but with all the new arrivals I am still not sure what to get and I am also out of funds in the camera budget.
