Temples in Malaysia

Postby Pokie » Sat Apr 03, 2010 1:36 pm

I spent about a week in Malaysia. Had very little opportunity to shoot - was there for business.
However I did have the opportunity to visit and take shots of some temples and mosques.
Would love to go back with more personal time, but not sure I could deal with the 30 hours in planes and airports to get there!

National Mosque. Kind of a postcard shot. Didn't have time to go in.

Hindu temple in Georgetown, Penang.
If I had been several days later I could have seen the annual firewalking ceremony.

Tokong Ular (Snake Temple), Georgetown Malaysia.
You gotta look this one up on the internet.

Nice pictures, Pokie. It's definitely worth returning, even with a 30 hour flight. I spent a month there in 2007. Travelled all up and down the west coast and also to Kuching in Sarawak. Georgetown, Penang was one of my favourite places. Went back there when I found out that Thaipusam, the huge Hindu festival was to be celebrated there at the end of my stay. Definitely plan to return.

I think the thing that really strikes me about Malaysia and many other countries in Asia are the colors. The temples and decor and clothing make for great photographs. I've always wanted to travel to that area and immerse myself in the rich culture and get plenty of great photographs. The pictures look great by the way. I have one question though about traveling. I haven't traveled outside the country in a while and was wondering about whether I need insurance for my cameras and if I need travel health insurance like those offered by atlas america insurance? Do you get insurance for your gear and belongings and travel health insurance while traveling?
I love fresh air.
