Howdy Folks!
I'm not really sure if this is the appropriate forum or not, but I'm not really seeing anywhere else to post this question...

I'm in the process of building my new website and I'm looking for a decent free place to put it. In the past I've used Freeservers.com, but over the years the pop-up's and banners have really taken over my websites unless I pay for their premium service. I don't really mind a banner or two on a free site, but Freeservers is getting a little ridiculous. At some point -if- I can get my photo stuff making some money, I wouldn't mind paying for the premium service, but for right now my wife and I sort of have an unspoken agreement...anything I buy for the photography has to come from money earned from the photography.

Also if I can get something without a totally horrible domain, that would be a plus...that's always been one of the nice things about Freeservers is that all they add to your domain is something like "8k.com". For example my currant site there is

www.walczakphoto.8k.com. (It hasn't been updated in over 2 years...you've been warned)

Not too hard for folks to remember (or for me to write on the back of a business card) unlike some of the sites I used to work with like Anglefire and Geocities and such that add this whole string of crap before you get to your domain name...

(i.e. www.anglefire.com/public/bitemybutt/667 ... kphoto.com)

Let's face it, I'll never remember it long enough to write it on a business card let alone expect others to find it! LOL! BTW...if you clicked on that...sorry...

With that said, if it's free and it has minimal banners and such, I'd still be interested as I can always link to it from a Freeservers front page.

Beyond "free" and having a decent domain name, if they have a reasonable HTML editor, that would be nice as well as I'm sure I'm going to have to tweak links and references and such once the pages are uploaded. I don't need templates or anything, just a basic editor.

Anyways, I still have at least a few days of work to do on this sucker...it's been a while since I've done any HTML programming, so I'm still tryin to knock the cobwebs out of the ol' brain box anyways. Also be forewarned that once I get this sucker hosted somewhere, I'm going to be looking for some guinea pi....err....beta testers. All and all I'm hoping to have my first "roll out" (as my wife puts it) done before next Monday.

Alrighty, as always I'm grateful for any assistance, suggestions or input!

Peace,
Jim

I dont know of any good free ones... but this may be an option... set up a gallery on one of the free photo hosting site (photobucket..etc) then either link from your current site... of just send folks to your gallery on the photo site.

not sure if that helps or not

I currently use www.bluehost.com

they however are NOT free.

Yea...that's the catch. For now at least it needs to be free. If I could pay for a premium site, then I'd just go ahead and upgrade my Freeservers site. Even with their basic premium package (which is like $20 a month) they remove all the banners.

When Freeservers first started, they only put a single banner on your first page of the site. After that they started putting a single banner on all of your pages and since then it's just gotten out of control. Looking at my guitar amp page right now, there's 4 banners...2 on the top, one on the side and one on the bottom and my Firefox browser keeps killing popups. I don't really mind it too much for my "screwing around" pages like my guitar and amp pages but for something serious I'd rather setup something that looks a little more professional.

Anyways, I appreciate the suggestion, but again it really does need to be free hosting for the moment...

Any other suggestions?

Peace,
Jim

You might try RedBubble (www.redbubble.com) - free site with a way to order prints.
