Camera Upgrade

Postby orangefrog18 » Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:12 am

I have a canon T2i that I have been using for over a year now. I use it mainly for macro photography outdoors with the canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM and EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM. I am starting to get gallery showings for some of my photographs. I am trying to decide if it is worth it to upgrade to the canon EOS 7D or EOS 5D Mark II. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Hey Orange Frog, welcome to the forum

I'm wondering why you think you need to upgrade? If the current set-up is getting notoriety, why spend more money on gear?

If the only thing I shot was Macro, I could get rid of half my gear  My only reason for needing faster lenses and higher resolution is because of our event coverage and needing to shoot in low lighting situations and fast action.

I'd stick with what you've got and spend any profit on the presentation and printing which will probably even earn you more money

You didn't post any pics, so wonder how you're set for lighting. That might be a better investment than a new camera.
Often when shooting macro, you're limited to shooting at wide aperture settings and a very shallow DOF because of limited lighting.
Purchasing flash could allow you to shoot at a smaller aperture and allow you to get more of your subject in focus.

Especially if you get a Ring Flash or Canon's Twin Macro Flash

Thanks for the help.
I shoot all of my photos outside and rarely use my ring light. I like the look and texture the natural light gives.
