I am new to DSLRs and am researching the entry level camera options. Both the Canon Rebel T3 and the Nikon 3100 are in my price range. Are they relatively the same or are there pros and cons to each one? I am interested in both landscape photography and portraiture. Survey says....

I'm assuming you mean the Canon T3i. Here's a link to a side by side comparison:
http://www.dpreview.com/products/compar ... on_eos600dSince you're new to DSLR's, are you aware that the main expense is the glass rather than the camera? I shoot Canon and believe their glass is a little less expensive than Nikon's, but doubt that you'll go wrong with either selection.

If i had to start from scratch, I would go with Nikon and I've been a Canon shooter for 12+ years.
