I love how this girl even stayed true to the fashion of Plugging her Nose while in mid-air

That looks like a lot of fun, it also looks like something I would not do. lol
I'd love to photograph that, though. Nice work Pat (except for the last one, too blurry). :-p

Nice action and color! I have often wondered what the fun was/is of jumping off a ramp into the water on a perfectly functional bike....I like the fact that they at least have the handle bars covered with a protective boat buoy...

Tom, if you've never done it, the simple act of hitting the water after doing some crazy trick you're too scared to try on the hard dirt, is answer enough.

Now add in the fact that most are usually teenagers when many things dont seem right to us adults. I know as a kid growing up in a very small town in Michigan with not too much to do during the summer months that wouldnt get us into trouble, we spent many summers staying cool by jumping our bikes into the local lakes and ponds.

Of course this was before we knew about women  Once those hormones started flowing, every waking second has been spent chasing them or trying to make the one I found happy :D

Hi Pat....Trying to keep the 'one' you found happy is a full time job, isn't it? LOL...Sounds like we were lucky enough to find someone who supports our little 'hobby'...I grew up in Indianapolis, and the nearest body of water to where we lived was a polluted reservoir with floating fish and garbage! The few times we went boating, I took inventory to make sure that I did not lose any body parts! Now, all these years later, the place is surrounded by $1 million homes and is pretty clean!

I'll be up in Michigan (Mac City area) in September for a week, so I will jump off a dock, just to remind myself how reckless I can still be and get away with it!

Thanks!

Mackinaw City in September is beautiful. If you're driving yourself up or at least will have access to a vehicle, make sure to take the Tunnel of Trees from the little town of Harbor Springs up to Cross Village.

The trees grow like a tunnel and if you're lucky, you might hit it right when they're all in full color. It's very magical.

Harbor Springs is one of those towns where all the money from Detroit used to spend their summers. The homes look like small hotels and I've always been amazed that many of them close up in late summer only having been used once.

Cross Village has this funky little restaurant called the Legs Inn. It's a must because of the way the guy built it.

Mackinaw City, and Mackinaw Island are both beautiful. You could also make a day trip up to Tahquamenon Falls

It's probably 50 miles from Mackinaw, but well worth the drive. Make sure to plan enough time to see both upper and lower falls.

I could give you places to go photograph all day long in that area, as this is where Cindy and I spend many weekends. It's a few (4) hours from our house in MI.

Hope you have fun!

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the input....My Dad and Mom have been going to Northern Michigan since the '40's. In fact, when my Dad was a boy, he and his Dad took the ferry from Mcity to St.Ignace! I try to spend at least one week a year in the Mac City area. Then I spend one or two days in the UP. Last year I hit Seney Refuge - I hope to go back this fall as well.

For about 10 years, my wife and I (with a group of friends) would vacation each February up in the Two Hearted River area. We all had Siberian Huskies (dog sledders) and would spend 12 days enjoying the scenery on the back of a dog sled. We hit the Falls several times. I have scanned in several pictures - one is here.......It was about 10-20 BELOW with a wind chill of -30 or so during this particular trip. Great times in a great place!

I could go on about my love affair with Michigan, but being from Michigan, you probaby know all that! I hope to retire to Michigan someday (Petoskey area) - after I hit all of the other places I want to visit!

Your shot of the Falls is excellent! I will hit the Falls as well in September...Image

Thanks Pat!

Very Cool shot of the falls in Winter. That is one thing we have yet to do is go up and see them during the winter. One time while snowmobiling across the UP, we were going to head that way, but I got voted out as they said it was too touristy and the rest wanted to hit Lake Superior with the sleds

Southern Wolf, I too will turn 35 at the end of this month, and I bet I'll probably jump a bike into the lake at least once this summer with my nephew :D

Hi Pat,

When we first started going to the Falls, the Welcome Center and Gift Shop were not there! It was in the 1990 time frame when we got there and the center was up. During all the winter trips when we would visit the park, we almost had the place to ourselves. We rarely saw any snowmobilers....Now with the Center up, I have noticed that during my summer and/or Fall visits, the park seems to have more visitors. Michigan is putting a push on tourism...

One more for old times sake! (It is 90 degrees here today!)

What if we riding on a trampoline? Must be fun!
I'd love to have a coat on me for it is going cold now... I have a canada goose jacket but it is out of style now...
I love wind, I feel life... Show me my faith!
