Got One !!!!

Finally took the plunge last Friday afternoon and bought our first DSLR, finally plumbed for the Canon EOS 40D.

Now just got to get to grips with it. Had a really busy weekend and feel quite frustrated that I haven't had a proper chance to use it yet or to sit down with the instructions, other than Friday night over a couple of Beers !!!!

Looking forward to posting shots here and progressing from comments like "What on earth have you done" to "Wow that's great !!!!". I'm sure the journey will be long !!!

How did your friend get one before the release date and are the pics on the internet and available for public viewing?

Have seen the the 50D on sale, albeit on the net. Prices for here in the UK are around the £1200.00 mark.

Mind you they may of been taking orders in prior to the release date.

the 50D is NOT available for sale. Canon will release it to the market in October. The places advertising it on stock are just lying, they'll take your money now and will ship it in October. These are just pre-orders.

1200 GBP? I think I'll plan a trip to the UK in October and sell a bunch of these babies Here in the U.S. they will cost half that price.

My friend works for Canon and he was sent to Hawaii to grab shots with this camera for advertising.
I'll get the link later today and will post it here so you can all see some of the photos.

Just checked pre ordered 50D body only is only £1199.99 and comes with a free Gadget Bag and 8G CF extreme III card.

I really hate this $1 = $1 EUR (or 1 GBP which is even worse...)
I mean, check this out (for EOS 50D):

That's just not fair, why are prices set like that?
I doubt it's the customs/tax issue since there are zillions of "free trade" agreements between EU & USA. IMHO, in my country (Croatia), there are no customs for import electronics, only VAT.
The huge difference in price is just not right.

I am going to NYC in December and I'm gonna storm B&H for EOS 50D and bunch of other stuff and my wallet will be less mutilated than here in Europe.

Yes, it's the same for computers.
What shocked me was that prices in Japan for computers and cameras (made there) are much higher there than in the U.S.

Because maybe USA control the Economy or strongest country in the world, so they do all the possible to keep their prices lower than others in the world.

It's just a question of market size and the fact that Americans unlike Japanese or Europeans (especially Japanese) will not pay over a certain price. Plus the economy here sucks so people have even less spending money.
