Ready for Fall?

Postby Pokie » Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:51 pm

I'm approaching the first anniversary of my first post to this forum.
You can find that post below - I was seeking advice on where to find color in late October along the Blue Ridge Parkway or eastern Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
In celebration of that milestone, in preparation for my fall trek back to the mountains, in hopes of getting some folks excited about shooting fall colors and scenery, and just to share a beautiful corner of the globe, I wanted to post several pictures from that trip.

How the Smokies got their name!
If I recall correctly, 1st two pics from BRP between Balsam Gap and Wolf Laurel Gap near Waynesville, NC

Along roadside near Clingman's Dome. Enveloped in fog.

Mingus Mill near North Carolina entrance to park

Reflection in pool near Chimney Tops trail head.

Falls near Chimney Tops trail head. West Prong Little Pigeon River (I think)

Breezy day - wind wouldn't stop and leaves wouldn't sit still for me.
I was happy just to be there weather wind cooperated or not.

The end.

Hope you like!

I really like the waterfall photos, especially with the yellow / orange leaves in the background.

Look forward to seeing the next lot.

And ready for the 29th Happy Posting Birthday :D :D

The two photos of the reflection in the water are my very favorite. Great composition, especially the one with the boulder.

Great stuff Pokie.

I too cant wait for the leaves to start changing. They're just starting this week to get some color to them up here in Michigan, so give us a few more weeks and I'll be posting some shots

Nothing as good as yours though!

Hi Pokie,
With the temps here in the upper 90's again this week, it was a delight admiring your photographs, the scenery is spectacular, the colors are gorgeous, and the water, mist and fog look so refreshingly cool. Thanks for sharing this wonderful series.

Cheers,
Graham

Leaving tomorrow!
Don't know if I'll be on the early side of the color or not. Last year I caught the tail end.
Looks like rain today, some more expected tomorrow.
As I read it, Friday and Saturday should be good days with fog lifting off the mountains.
Some moisture in the air, cool nights, light to no wind. Decent cloud cover, especially Friday. Hope it works out.
First on the agenda is to hike to Ramsey Cascades. Biggest falls in the park.
Want to do Friday since more likely to be overcast.
Never been there - looks like about 8 to 10 mile round trip, maybe a little on the strenuous side.
Gotta be at least a little easier than Virgin River Narrows!(?)
Probably wing it afterwards.
Can't wait!

OK! You have inspired me to get out there today and see what I can do with Vermonts beautiful foliage.

Thanks!
