In 2004 wildfires burned millions of acres around the city of Fairbanks. In the years following, the land slowly came back to life and fireweed exploded everywhere. This magenta wildflower (weed) covered the hills and fields for miles in every direction. I took this photo while driving on the Steese Hwy near Eagle Summit in late July. A summer storm had just passed over and the storm clouds split to reveal a patch of blue and sunshine.
