Description

A Ball at the Wave The wave in northern Arizona has become a mecca for landscape photographers. Understandable so. It is unique, but is difficult to access, places are restricted in number and conditions can be difficult with frequent high winds. This day had wind gusts in excess of 50 knots. I lost my hat and the pink pass on my camera bag supplied by the Bureau of Land Management was ripped off by the winds. But the Wave is fun. I planned this shot to document something of the Wave’s scale and slope. I carried a deflated basketball in my pack and inflated it on site. A Nikon D4 was placed on a Velbon tripod with Really Right Stuff ballhead. 17-35mm f2.8 Nikon lens. 35mm F11, 1/3200 sec at ISO 1600, 6 second exposure 11 frames per second. I made 4 rolls of the ball and my wife collected it at the bottom of the wave to prevent it being blown to Utah. Compositing and post production in Adobe Photoshop. Mark Goyen
