The city of Aalesund is located on the west coast of Norway. After a few warm summer days it is almost guaranteed that fog will come rolling in from sea, and this was the case the day this photo was made. The photo was taken from a popular viewpoint on top of the mountain "Aksla" and shows the area north of the city covered by thick fog at sunset. The area offers plenty of photographic opportunities ranging from landscape photography and bird photography (Runde island is known for its breeding colonies of Atlantic puffins, Kittiwakes and Northern Gannets among others) to architecture and street photography (the citywas rebuilt in the style of Art Nouveau after a widespread fire in 1904). The light is especially beautiful from late fall and throughout the winter as the sun is low on the horizon and storms offer up dramatic clouds. On clear nights the Northern lights can be seen if the conditions are right.
