The Highway I-95 to Millinocket then follow the signs to both the upper and lower gates to the park (west on 157)
Most people go to Baxter in the fall for the foliage and the bull moose in full antler, but I prefer the spring when the park just opens. The weather can be changeable, creating moody woods images. The park is noticeable less crowded and you can often have an entire mountain to yourself. Mid May also still provides a scattering of snows on the higher peaks.
