Take a ferry ride from Montauck, Long Island, NY to arrive in New Harbor. Or take your own boat! Ferries arriving in Old Harbor such as the ferries from New London, CT, Point Judith, RI, and Newport, RI, are only a couple miles walk or a short local taxi ride away.
There is a debate about the best time to visit Block Island, the small isolated island located 13 miles south off the coast of Rhode Island. In summer it's population swells and it becomes a bustling tourist location, but in autumn the town quiets, the days are still warm, and the entire atmosphere changes. Here in New Harbor, across the island from the popular port of Old Harbor, there is a larger harbor and anchorage for visiting boats. There are popular eateries and marinas, including the famous restaurant The Oar, general store at The Boat Basin, and the docks at Payne's. This was captured from Payne's dock during sunset looking north over the harbor.
