Brief Directions

From the Ben Reifel Visitor Center, drive northwest on the Badlands Loop Road, for about 1 1/2 miles. On the right side of the road, is the parking area for the Saddle Pass Trail. The Saddle Pass Trail is a fairly steep and strenuous 1/4 mile hike, that will take you to the Medicine Root Trail, which is a much easier hiking trail. It is also away from the typical overlooks, that most visitors stop at, so you shouldn't have to worry about being crowded.

Notes

There is a box located at the Saddle Pass trailhead. Inside is a form for you to sign in and sign out, so the park rangers know you are in the back country.
