The Comet Falls trailhead is located four miles east of Longmire on the road toward Paradise. Parking space is limited and often full. There is no more parking nearby, so have an alternate hike in mind.

Notes

When ever I hike on Mt. Rainier, I always take a day pack with plenty of energy snacks and my water filter. There is also a great deal of flora and fauna on this trail to photograph as well. Just after I shot Comet Falls, a pretty good sized black bear walked in front of me and my wife as we heaeded down the trail. No kidding, it's back was about to my chest. Keep your eyes open and talk loud and a lot. The last thing you want to do is walk up on a bear or Mt. Lion. Rainier has both.

Description

One of the highest waterfalls in the park, Comet Falls was named because it resembles the tail of a comet. For two miles the trail switches back through the thick forest and along the river that flows from the falls above. The 320 ft. Comet Falls is a popular destination for many day hikers. From the parking lot to the falls is almost all up hill. Not a hard hike but one that will tax your lungs if your not physically ready for the hike.
