Description

Rainier is revered for its wildflowers, and I'm as capable of being lured by the incredible summer displays there as anyone. This image was created near the Sunrise Center in Rainier NP's northeastern corner. I learned upon my return home that the "mist" in this image -- what I thought was a light morning fog -- was in fact smoke from agricultural burns and wildfires in eastern Russia. Crazy, and hence the image's name, Russian Sunrise.
