In my lightboxes:
- Title: Kissing Herons
- State/Province/Region: Florida
- Country: United States
- Description: I had been watching these two Great Blue Herons coming back and forth from their nest on and off all evening, and with each landing, they would check each other out (probably to make sure the wrong bird didn’t land on their nest).
Well, I was driving around the wetlands (Rick Grissom Wetlands in FL to be exact) as the sun was getting ready to rest for the day and noticed how cool the colors were turning. Then I remembered these two and how their nest was pretty much in front of where the setting sun would be. Hmm… Wouldn’t take much maneuvering to get a REALLY sweet shot!
So, I stopped by the nest, set up, and waited. It wasn’t long before the stars lined up and I was able to snag this shot. OK, this was one of several dozen – but this was the ONLY shot where the two herons had their beaks exactly right. I frankly couldn’t believe I got it – but sometimes you get lucky.
